Yes, you’re correct; the readings aren’t available (problems scanning them, too boring to relate). So, we will go over the readings fairly closely tomorrow in class.

I really enjoyed the film from today’s class. It was interesting to see how many ways the portrayal of women’s sports differ from men’s sports, like how the sports commentators refer to women by their first names, and to men by either their last name or by their full name.

I enjoyed the film, but at the beginning I would have liked some powerpoint notes or something for the chapter notes. I guess I am just a visual learner!!!

The movie on women in sports was also believed to be very interesting; women are clearly seen inferior in the sports world. I found it really interesting to know that the media made such a big deal about Rebecca Mead taking off her shirt in the USA soccer game, such an innocent gesture wouldn’t be seen as taboo if a male was to do it. The movie pointed out a lot of difference within western society between men and women in sports that I never noticed, after watching the movie I feel more educated and aware. Being a sports girl myself I find it intriguing to know that within our society I’ll never be looked at the same when scoring a goal compared to when a guy does. Next time I throw on my rugby jersey I’ll make sure to take off my shirt, it seems to be the only way to draw attention to women in sports.
