Harassment in the workplace

January 24, 2007

We won’t be discussing workplace issues for a few weeks yet but ran across this article in The Star: it makes some perhaps surprising claims about sexual harassment in the workplace and who are most often targeted. The full article is here (Winter 2007 issue; p. 46).

  1. Meghan Fequet Says:

I find it interesting to know that not the typical female traits such as: vulnerable, fragile and girly are not the causes of sexual harassment. I never considered before that it is more often the women with more masculine traits who get sexual harassed. It makes a lot of sense to know this but I find the media portrays a different outlook on sexual harassment, in movies it is usually the big boss seducing the beautiful secretary.

  2. Miriam Jones Says:

Yes, it goes against the common assumption that harassment is about sexual attraction, and indicates that it is sometimes a lot more about hostility than it is about desire.
